Cradley Heath Revisited

This page is intended to show our fans and previous visiting supporters an insight to the changes made to Cradley Heath since their last visit. You may be shocked to see the amount of building work being carried out in and around the town.  Most of the industry that was associated with the area has now gone, most of it to Barratt housing as you can see.  There are many more factories, schools and other buildings lost but I have only included the streets where visiting fans might have passed on their way to Dudley Wood.

The first photo's are from Dudley Wood as it is now...

The photo's are thumbnailed so can click on any of them to get the full sized version

The 'home straight'

The 'back straight' This first photo [left] shows the 'home straight', looking at where the starting gate would have been. The old wooden stand would be on the right of the picture.
........................................
The photo on the right shows the back straight looking from where the pits were.
This road is now known as Racemeadow  Crescent.

The next section shows what has happened outside the stadium....
Victoria Inn bowling green & car-park Dudley Wood Church

On the left, this used to be the bowling green and car park for the Victoria Pub outside the stadium, many supporters would have enjoyed a 'pint' there.
...........................................
On the right was Dudley Wood Church - yes the one opposite the stadium.

The new by-pass

Kimber Die & Tool site
On the left the new Cradley Heath bypass looking down towards the new Tesco Extra Superstore

.. and right - Kimber Die & Tool, Barratts could not stop the noise, so they flattened it.

Tesco Superstore from High Street

The new Tesco fuel salesPhoto on the left is the new Tesco Extra Superstore in Cradley Heath High Street, the statue in front of the store depicts some speedway images and was opened by Billy Hamill on 24th  September 2007....

The former Eliza Tinsley Works Speedway Cars (taxi company)

This was Eliza Tinsleys factory in Reddal Hill, now  a Barratts housing estate.

.................................................

I found this on the Cradley Heath by-pass, perhaps one of the last remaining reminders - but for how long?

The Five Ways   Liberal Club

On the left, the Five Ways, as you can see the old church has now gone, the new by-pass joins about 30 mtrs on...

................................................

Right - the New Liberal Club where Cradley held their disco's and club nights has moved from Bank Street to Upper High Street

This last picture was taken by Brian Buck late in 2006 and shows the remains of  Les Beaumont's old confectionery and tobacconist shop in Graingers Lane.
